‘Gram Gadar Award’ for the year 2012 announced

Jaipur, April 12, 2013During the 1980s, there were limited means of communication in the rural areas. Hence, it was difficult to convey any information to the rural folk of Rajasthan. Radio was the only exception. T.V. also had a very limited reach. Moreover, at that time, no newspaper used to reach the remote villages of the State. Understanding the problems of the rural people, in 1983, a poster-sized newspaper from Jaipur called ‘Gram Gadar’ (Village Revolution) got started. This wall-newspaper is very effective and popular in rural areas of Rajasthan and, seeing the growing demand and popularity of ‘Gram Gadar’ in rural areas, an advocacy group Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) came into existence.

Publishing since 1983 ‘Gram Gadar’ a walled newspaper has proved to be quite effective and popular in rural areas. Main objective of this walled newspaper is to sensitize the rural people especially poor and deprived sections by making them aware of their rights and developing a questioning society.

On April 13, 2002, Gram Gadar completed its twenty years of publications and since then, this award is given to media persons especially the rural based, who raises the issue of public interest through their journalism in an effective manner. This year, “mahilaon ke prati hinsa evam unki suraksha” was selected as the subject and the journalists/media persons, who have raised the issue through their write-ups/articles and news in rural/urban based newspapers were asked to submit their applications.

For selecting the best write ups, a jury headed by renowned journalist Shri Rajendra Prasad Bora selected Chandra Mouli Pachrangia, a news reporter of Dainik Amber from Jhunjhunu district for ‘Gram Gadar’ journalism award for the year 2012 out of the total applications received from all over Rajasthan.

Chandra Mouli Pachrangia, a resident of Chirawa in Jhunjhunu district has written many articles for Dainik Amber and in this way directly associated with the issues related to public interest.

He will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 (ten thousand) and a certificate of appreciation in a function to be organised by CUTS, the dates of which will be decided later.
