Animator Training on Facilitating Children’s Collective
A one-day Animator Training under the project Stronger Voice to Excluded Children in Government and NGO Policies and Programmes was organised at CHD on January 05, 2010. The purpose of the training was to orient the animators towards child rights, model of Bal Sabha and Bal Panchayat and importance of recording minutes of the Bal Sabha and Bal Panchayat meetings. Discussions were also held on the role of Bal Panchayats in coming Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) elections. 24 Animators were present in this training. Ashish Tripathi, Piyush Baranwal, Parth Joshi, Reahana Parveen, Shanti Lal Dangi and Sumitra Garg facilitated different sessions in this training.
Children’s Collective Practices Lessons of Democracy
One meeting of children was organised on January 15, 2010 under the project Stronger Voice to Excluded Children in Government and NGO Policies and Programmes to jointly prepare a Children’s’ Charter of Demand. 46 children and 25 animators participated in this meeting. Madan Giri Goswami discussed the structure and roles of PRI functionaries in detail. Piyush Kumar Baranwal, Sumitra Garg, Rehana Parveen, Shanti Lal Dangi and Parth Joshi facilitated various sessions. Bal Panchayat members presented the Charter of Demand to the PRI contestant from their village and took a promise from them in writing that after getting selected they will make their best efforts to fulfil the demands of children on priority and will work towards building child-friendly gram panchayats. More than 1000 children from 12 gram panchayats actively participated in this campaign and got written promises from 110 contestants.
Road Safety Week
Road Safety Week was observed by CUTS CHD with the support of District Transport Office, Chittorgarh, from January 04-10, 2010. In this duration, reflectors were put on about 600 slow-moving vehicles like bullock–carts and tractors. Awareness generation activities involved distribution of pamphlets and talks on road safety in various schools.
Study of Mid-day Meal (MDM)
A study of Mid-day Meal was conducted under Improving Quality of Elementary Education Project (IQEEP) to know the status of its implementation in project schools from January 15-20, 2010. A study was conducted in eight schools of the project area. Focussed Group Discussions (FGDs) were conducted with community members, teachers, girls and boys. Sanjay Moud, Madan Lal Keer, Neetu Joshi and Chanda Jaat facilitated the FGDs.
